An experienced Private Equity company run by a very successful man, Andrew Filipowski

SilkRoad Equity Company Information

Just thought I'd post about an excellent private equity company I have known about for a while, SilkRoad Equity, run by the very successful Andrew "Flip" Filipowski. (How many other people can say they sold a company to a large technology company, CA, for a dew billion dollars?) They invest in a wide range of opportunities focusing on those with high growth potential and strong management. They have an extensive portfolio of companies and what really impresses me is the following statement from their site:

We do not acquire businesses with a predefined exit strategy; rather, we focus on the entry strategy.  Beginning with a deep appreciation for the employee skill sets and customer relationships, we are intent on nurturing and supporting a company's growth and enhanced value.

Now, how many other private equity companies have you seen with anything similar to that on their website?

If you are searching for capital and have high growth potential and strong management, make sure SilkRoad is at the top of your list!

Much Success!

Now don't you wish you had a Facebook? or Facebook gets another $40 million!

Just saw this on the Silicon Valley Business Journal website:
Report: Investor puts $60M into Facebook

so this social networking thing isn't just a fad! ;-)

$300 million ($240M from Microsoft) invested in Facebook in the last 2 months.  Not bad at all!

A Facebook Apps fund? - Maybe I should start creating a facebook app!

I know this is not an event but I thought I'd post it here in case you are interested in building a Facebook app...

I just read on TechCrunch that a Silicon Valley venture capital organization, Bay Partners, recently launched a fund just for FaceBook apps called AppFactory. Maybe I should start building a Facebook app!

Launch Silicon Valley Event - November 8, 2006

Just saw this on Guy Kawasaki's blog and wanted to get the word out. Here's a blurb from the site:

On November 8, at the Microsoft Campus in Mountain View, CA, the next generation of emerging technology companies will have the opportunity to tell their stories to the world at the first "Launch: Silicon Valley."

The event is designed to uncover and showcase the most exciting of the newest startups in high technology. Launch: Silicon Valley is looking for new companies that are ready for launch, but are not already well-known. These are companies who have a product or service available (as of November 8), but have not been out for more than several months. All technology sectors and all geographies will be considered.

If you want to nominate a company (or if you are a company and want to nominate yourself!), please email a two-page executive summary to LaunchSV@svase.org . The deadline for submissions is October 15.

Launch: Silicon Valley is not a pitchfest or a beauty pageant. Companies will not be pitching for funding; they will be looking for buzz, customers, mindshare, and possibly talent and partners. But not funding. Launch: Silicon Valley wants to focus on finding companies that are not already well-funded and well-known, and that can't afford their own fancy PR campaigns and the exorbitant fee to present at some elegant resort.

If you want to nominate a company (or if you are a company and want to nominate yourself!), please email a two-page executive summary to LaunchSV@svase.org . The deadline for submissions is October 15. If you have any questions about the event, or if you want to register to attend, please go to: http://www.LaunchSiliconValley.org.

All submissions will be reviewed by an Advisory Board of investors and executives. The 30 most interesting companies will be invited to participate in the “Launch: Silicon Valley” showcase, and 15 of these companies will also be invited to deliver product presentation to an audience of Silicon Valley’s leading movers and shakers.

Entrepreneur Venture Conference - 10/5/06

From the site:

The 2006
Entrepreneur Venture Conference

October 5, 2006
Microsoft, Silicon Valley

 Overview
CALL FOR APPLICATIONS 2006

The Women's Technology Cluster's Entrepreneur Venture Conference (EVC) is the premier event for women-led companies seeking investment from VCs. Qualifying applicants are mentored through the complete fundraising effort - from financials to presentation to closing the deal. Presenting companies pitch to over 200 venture capitalists, providing a valuable opportunity to secure funding and supporting the WTC’s mission to increase the number of women-led companies who raise investment.

"As a member of WTC's team of over 50 coaches and panelists that participated in the two-month program for the presenting companies, I was highly impressed with the quality of companies. In coaching AzERx, I knew I had come across a high-potential, early-stage company that I would not have seen, except for WTC's conference." Dr. Anula Jayasuriya, PhD, Managing Director and Founder, Life Sciences India, Draper Fisher Jurvetson

 Objective
To facilitate the successful funding of early stage companies. Since 2003, companies presenting at WTC conferences have raised over $163 million in financings and have returned $88 million to their investors through M&A transactions. This includes two companies who have since gone public, including Napo Pharmaceuticals who went public on the LSE on July 31, 2006.

“The Women's Technology Cluster’s programs and Venture Conference have been a major contributor to our flying start. In the summer of 2005, we walked into the WTC as a freshly minted company with an experienced engineering team and by the end of February 2006 we had already completed our first round of funding. The WTC model of pairing companies with C-level mentors brought us an outstanding lead mentor, Linda V. Moore. Linda’s dedication and advice was an important factor in achieving our funding. Our involvement with the WTC was a turning point for our organization.” Laura A. Smoliar, PhD, Founder and CEO of Mobius Photonics
